Kate Middleton and Prince William will marry at Westminster Abbey
After announcing the engagement and details of the wedding on Twitter, The Royal Family has sent invites to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding by fax.
Next month the Lord Chamberlain's Office will mail gold-embossed, handwritten invitations to the event on 29 April; but for now the faxes ensure the family is obeying royal code, which dictates that sovereigns are told earlier than non-VIP guests.
'Faxes have been used before for large-scale events,' says a Buckingham Palace courtier.
'They are an efficient and polite way to inform people as quickly as possible.'
As well as taking to the fax machine, the clued-up 21st century British Monarchy has almost 99,000 followers on Twitter, a Facebook page and a presence on photo-sharing website Flickr.
