Rupert Friend and Keira Knightley liked to keep their private life private

Keira Knightley has broken-up with from actor boyfriend Rupert Friend.

The couple, who dated for five years, mutually ended their relationship before Christmas.

'Yes, they have broken up,' Keira's father Will Knightley confirms.

'But that's the way things go, unfortunately.

'I've spoken to her recently. The only option is to get on with things.'

Keira and Rupert met in 2005 on the set of Pride And Prejudice and lived together in a home overlooking London's Hyde Park.

The pressure of always being in the public eye is reported to be the reason behind Keira - star of Pirate's Of The Caribbean - and shy Rupert's split.

'Rupert hates the idea of being followed and photographed,' a friend tells The Sun.

'Keira partially had to accept it because of her rising profile.

'It affected the harmony in their relationship.

'The pressure on such private people took its toll and both decided they should go their separate ways.

'They will remain life-long friends.'
