David Arquette and Courteney Cox have been married for 11 years

Courteney Cox and husband David Arquette have revealed they are going through a trial separation.

The couple - who are parents to Coco, 6 - are hoping the break will help save their marriage.

'We have agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time,' reads a statement.

'The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage.

'We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply.

'We are comfortable with the boundaries that we have established for each other during this separation and we hope that our friends, family, fans and the media also show us respect, dignity, understanding and love at this time as well.'

Friends star Courteney, 46, and David, 39, met in 1996 while filming Scream.

They tied the knot in June 1999 in San Francisco.
