Susan Boyle lost out to Diversity in the final of Britain's Got Talent 2009

Susan Boyle passed out yesterday when she was told she'd meet Pope Benedict XVI.

The Britain's Got Talent star will perform at an open-air mass in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, today and will be introduced to His Holiness backstage.

Susan, 49, collapsed into the arms of Monsignor Peter Smith, of St Mary's Cathedral, when given the news during rehearsals yesterday.

'I think she had a rush of blood to the head,' he tells the Daily Record. 'She was ecstatic. Delighted.

'It was the first she knew she was going to meet the Pope and she was overwhelmed.'

Susan will perform I Dreamed A Dream and the hymn How Great Thou Art to kick off the event, join an 800-strong choir during the mass and perform a farewell solo song to bring the service to an end.

Meeting the Pope will be a huge boost for her after she was left devastated last week when she was unable to sing Lou Reed classic Perfect Day on America's Got Talent.

Lou was initially thought to have denied permission to cover the track - but it was later revealed that it was actually a US licensing glitch that blocked the performance.

Simon Cowell, 50, didn't accept the excuse and said the situation had become 'petty'.
