Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh says she, Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle were all ‘tanorexics' when they first found fame.
‘All five of us used to look pretty Tangoed, it's so cringey,' she admits.
And, in retrospect, 28-year-old Kimberley realises it wasn't a good look.
‘There
was one time we were all so tired we said: "We're not getting our hair
and make-up done, we'll do it ourselves so we can get up an hour
later,"' she tells the Daily Star.
‘Then we went on TV but it really wasn't pretty
viewing. We all looked like shiny, sweaty, orange heads.'
Bandmate Nicola, 24, who is currently campaigning to change the law to ban under-18s from using sunbeds, admits her obsession with fake tan used to rule her life.
‘I would get into the shower, scrub off the old fake tan, moisturise, then put new fake tan on, then get into bed at 1.30am knowing I had to be up at 4.30am and I'd say to myself: "No pain, no gain,"' Nicola tells The Guardian.
‘I'm now really happy being pale. The tan used to be my armour; now my "thing" is my pale skin.'
Nicola has since come to love her porcelain complexion and released her own Dainty Doll make-up range.
