Since recovering from malaria, Cheryl Cole's ditched her ‘terrible diet' for a protein-rich regime.
While she was holed up at LA's Sunset Marquis hotel before returning to her X Factor duties, she had the chance to review her eating habits.
‘Before she got sick, Cheryl's diet was terrible,' a source close to the stunning singer tells Now.
‘She used to skip meals and was so busy with work that she never had time to think about food.
'She'd even smoke instead of eating.'
Getting ill changed all that.
‘Cheryl's doctor told her she needs a lot more protein, which is a challenge for her as she's basically a vegetarian,' says our source.
‘But she does eat fish, so she's been eating a lot of that - and vegetable risotto is also a current favourite.
‘Tofu is another great protein source and Cheryl likes it stir- fried with veg and brown rice.
'She also loves protein-rich spinach in a salad with strawberries and poppy seed dressing.
'She's given up cigarettes and is trying to eat four or five meals a day.
'Breakfast isn't just coffee now: she has fresh fruit or a soya milk protein shake.
‘Now that Cheryl's taking care of her body, she's seeing great results.'
