Michael Douglas is fighting throat cancer

Michael Douglas has been diagnosed with cancer.

Doctors have found a tumour in his throat, the actor's spokesperson confirms.

Michael, 65, will now undergo 8 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

'I am very optimistic,' he says in a statement to People.

Michael is married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. 40.  The couple are parents to Dylan Michael, 10, and Carys Zeta. 7.

The Hollywood star also has a son, Cameron, 31, with ex-wife Diandra Luker.
