Cheryl Cole is munching on traditional Geordie food while she's recovering from malaria.
Mum Joan Callaghan has been making the Girls Aloud star ham and lentil soup, stottie cakes - a doughy-style flat bread - and bringing her Craster kippers.
'It's definitely helping to cheer her up,' a source tells The Sun.
'There were things like quail eggs on the [hospital] menu. But fancy foods aren't Cheryl's way.
'She's from a real working-class background and the home-made meals are a nice reminder from her childhood days.'
Cheryl, 27, is believed to have contracted malaria while on holiday in Tanzania with dancer pal Derek Hough, 25, last month.
