Cheryl Cole is slowly winning her battle with malaria, according to her dad.

The Girls Aloud star contracted the tropical disease while on holiday in Tanzania with dancer pal Derek Hough, 25, last month. 

Gary Tweedy, 47, says Cheryl, 27, is feeling better than when she first checked into hospital 10 days ago.

'She has been in a bad way and we have obviously been worried,' he tells the Daily Mirror. 

'But she's on the mend now. We don't know how long she'll be in hospital. We're just relieved she's all right.'

Cheryl was transferred from intensive care to a private clinic on Friday.

Doctors have advised the The X Factor judge to not return to work until September.
