Andrew Garfield has been unveiled as the new Spider-Man.

The actor will take over from Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker.

‘Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor's work understand his extraordinary talents,' says director Marc Webb in a statement.

‘He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.'

Andrew, 26, has previously starred in The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus and Lions For Lambs.

Sony Pictures is planning a reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, focusing on the origins of the character.

Shooting begins in December and the film will hit cinemas on 3 July 2012.
