Nicole Richie's DUI probation extended

Socialite given more time to complete alcohol education classes

Nicole Richie was not in court during Tuesday's hearing

Nicole Richie's probation for her 2007 DUI sentence has been extended.

A California judge has given The Simple Life star, 28, until March 2011 to complete her required alcohol education classes, reports E! Online.

Nicole has not been able to attend the courses because she has been busy caring for children Harlow, 2, and Sparrow, 8 months.

She was arrested in December 2006 after driving the wrong way on a freeway.

Nicole - who is engaged to Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, 30 - later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour DUI charge and spent 82 minutes in jail in August 2007.
