Angelina Jolie made a surprise visit to Ecuador on Thursday.

Brad Pitt's partner visited refugees and domestic violence victims at a daycare centre in her role as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador.

'It's been 8 years since I was last here and UNHCR's presence has grown considerably,' said Angelina, 35, in a statement.

'I wanted to come back and meet with vulnerable people and focus on violence against women and unaccompanied minors.

'I am so happy to be able to reconnect with some familiar faces, refugees I had met with during my 2002 trip.'

Angelina has been a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador since 2001.
