Nick Cannon has Tweeted a response to claims that wife Mariah Carey is expecting their first child.

'If and when my wife is ready to make ANY announcements about private matters she will do it personally,' Nick, 29, says on his Twitter page.

'My heart goes out to any woman who has to deal with public scrutiny and speculation pertaining to their private life.'

Nick's comment doesn't confirm or deny the rumours that Mariah, 40 - who recently dropped out of an upcoming film role - is pregnant.

The singer's rep has also made a cryptic statement.

'I'm not at liberty to discuss Mariah's personal life at this time,' she tells RadarOnline.
