David Arquette was knocked over as he got involved in a fracas at a basketball game last night.

Courteney Cox's husband was at the Staples Center in California to watch the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Phoenix Suns.

After the match, a fan rushed onto the court and ended up in a tussle with a security guard.

As David, 38, tried to pull them apart, he fell flat on his back on the front row seats.

'At the end of the game, a fan came out of the stands and out on to the court,' a spokesman for AEG, which operates the Staples Center, tells the Daily Mail.

'Any time a fan breaches the court, you don't know what their intentions are. We approached him and asked him to leave and when he didn't want to leave, there was some force used.'

Other stars in attendance included Jessica Alba, husband Cash Warren, Hilary Duff, Jack Nicholson, Sylvester Stallone, Antonia Banderas, Jamie Foxx and Andy Garcia.
