John Travolta is married to actress Kelly Preston

John Travolta's two dogs died in a freak accident at Bangor International Airport in Maine on Thursday.

A truck hit the pets on the runway while a minder - who was not injured - was walking them.

‘An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs,' reads a statement. 'Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed.

‘The airport is investigating the accident. The airport takes safety very seriously. Many flights come and go without incidents. Clearly, this is an unfortunate accident.

'Our deepest sympathies are with the family.'

John's spokesman has yet to comment.

In January 2009, his 16-year-old son Jett died after suffering a seizure while at the family holiday home in the Bahamas.
