Gemma Merna: I won't get married in a meringue dress

Gemma Merna plays Carmel McQueen in Hollyoaks

Gemma Merna has ruled out wearing an elaborate wedding dress when she gets married.

The actress, who plays Carmel McQueen in Hollyoaks, has been engaged to property developer Ian Minton for just over a year.

'I won't be having a meringue dress!' she tells Now. 

'I haven't organised anything yet, but I'm sure I'll probably turn into [a Bridezilla]!' she says.

'My fiancé Ian has promised to take all the stress off me, which is amazing, but we haven't even set a date yet.'


Gemma says Ian's proposal was perfect.

'We were on a lovely holiday in the Maldives last year and after we'd had dinner on the beach, he went down on one knee,' she adds.

'The engagement ring was perfect, too - a 
diamond with no flaws.'
