Bookies have cut their odds on Prince William and Kate Middleton announcing their engagement this summer.

Royal staff are reported to have been told to clear two days in the diary in June, which usually signifies an important announcement.

Buckingham Palace is also believed to have placed a bumper order for vintage bubbly at Dom Pérignon.

While Prince William, 27, continues with his royal duties - having just completed a tour of New Zealand - Kate Middleton, 28, is expected to step up her charity work and public appearances before becoming a 'Princess-in-waiting'.

William Hill's Rupert Adams says: ‘We have seen a 1,000% increase in bets for a royal engagement in the last 48hrs.'
