Couple announce break-up on Twitter

Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy dated for five years

Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have broken up after five years together.

The couple announced their split on micro-blogging site Twitter.

'Jenny and I have just ended our five-year relationship,' wrote Jim, 48.

'I'm grateful for the many blessings we've shared and I wish her the very best!'

Jenny, 37, plans to remain friends with the comedian. 

'I'm so grateful for the years Jim and I had together,' she wrote.

'I will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.'

Their publicists have confirmed the split.
