Heroes star would dilute drink with water

Hayden Panettiere has revealed that she started drinking alcohol when she was just 8.

The actress, who plays Claire Bennet in Heroes, says it was a way of celebrating her heritage. 

'I was raised Italian and we always had diluted glasses of red wine at dinner time from about the age of 8,' Hayden tells Now.

'That's just what kids do in Italy. It wasn't ever something bad.'

But Hayden, 20, says she never overdoes the boozing. 

'I have the occasional drink - of course I do,' she explains.

'I don't drink a lot, just a glass of wine or champagne every now or then.'
