Lil Wayne's sentencing for a weapons possession case has been delayed - because a fire broke out at the Manhattan court where he was due to appear.

Yesterday's blaze left 8 people with minor injuries and about 1,000 others had to evacuate the building.

Lil Wayne, real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, is now hoping the sentencing will take place today, reports the Associated Press.

The rapper, 27, could spend a year in jail after pleading guilty to charges arising from a 2007 arrest when a gun was found on his tour bus after a concert in Manhattan.

It is the second time the sentencing has been postponed.

Last month, Lil Wayne appeared in court to request a delay so he could have surgery on his teeth.

He faces a separate trial in Arizona on 30 March for felony drug possession and weapons charges, stemming from an arrest in January 2008.
