Chelsea footballer ditches gold band in France

Cheryl Cole's estranged husband Ashley has been photographed without his wedding ring.

The X Factor judge announced her split from the Chelsea footballer, 29, last week following allegations he cheated on her.

Ashley ditched his gold band as he went for a walk on crutches at the French rehab clinic he is being treated at for a broken ankle.

'He has taken it off as a mark of respect - to show her he knows he's messed everything up,' a source tells The Sun.

'He's praying there will be a day he can put it back on again. He looks utterly miserable and spends his entire time texting on his mobile phone. He clearly can't get Cheryl out of his mind.'

In January 2008, single mum Aimee Walton claimed she had sex with Ashley in December 2007.

He was then accused of cheating on his wife on two occasions in late 2008 with a secretary, with Ann Corbitt in Seattle in July 2009 and Alexandra Taylor hours after he and Cheryl went public with their relationship in 2004. 

After returning from LA, Cheryl, 26, has been holed up at the couple's Surrey mansion.

The Girls Aloud star made her first trip out on Friday since the split when she went to Lady Gaga's concert at London's O2 Arena.
