Charlie Sheen is in rehab, his rep has confirmed.

The actor, 44, is taking a break from filming his hit US show Two And A Half Men to seek treatment for an undisclosed issue.

‘As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility,' publicist Stan Rosenfield says in a statement.

‘He has asked that his privacy be honoured. No further statements are planned.'

Two And A Half Men has now temporarily shut down production.

‘CBS, Warner Bros Television and [Executive Producer] Chuck Lorre support Charlie Sheen in his decision today to begin voluntary inpatient care at a treatment centre,' reads a statement from show bosses.

‘We wish him nothing but the best as he deals with this personal matter.'

Earlier this week, a lawyer for Charlie's wife Brooke
Mueller confirmed she had checked into rehab for an undisclosed reason.

The couple are parents to ten-month-old twins Max and Bob.
