Ex-Corrie star Tina still struggling after split with Ryan Thomas

Tina O'Brien is finding it hard to cope as a single mum

After Tina O'Brien broke up with her on- and off-screen Coronation Street lover Ryan Thomas three months ago, she knew she was facing an uphill struggle bringing up their daughter Scarlett singlehandedly.

At first she thought the split was just temporary, but close friends say there's no chance of a reunion.

There's less bad blood between the pair than there was in December. Then, things were are at an all-time low following a bust-up at their Cheadle home when police were called. Ryan denied assaulting Tina and was released without charge.

But Tina said on Manchester's Key 103 Radio last week: ‘It's all good now.' Sources say they're trying to remain civil to each other for Scarlett's sake.

‘Tina says too much water's gone under the bridge to even consider a reunion, which means it's difficult as she has to juggle motherhood with her career,' says Now's source.

'She never envisaged being in this position even six months ago and it's been tough. But the wounds are finally starting to heal.'

Since their break-up, Tina, 26, has sought refuge at her mum's house in Bury, but friends say that she now spends most of her time at her apartment in Manchester city centre.

They feel this is a big step for Tina and shows she's gained more confidence.

She's also just gone back to work and is filming a new role in Waterloo Road, after having any hopes of returning to Corrie dashed by her split with Ryan, 25.

Any comeback would've caused ‘unbearable tension' on set.

‘This next year won't be easy, especially if she gets a job away from Manchester.  Ryan helps out - he sees Scarlett once a week - but she'd be lost without her mum. However, all the signs are that she's finally getting over Ryan and moving on with her life.'
