Amy Winehouse's dad attempted to have her sectioned under the Mental Health Act in April 2008.
Mitch, 58, claims she began to self-harm after telling husband Blake Fielder-Civil she'd had an affair.
So the cabbie tried to intervene after tracking down Amy, 26, at a recording studio in Oxford.
‘She wasn't suicidal but she was clearly unwell,' explains Mitch.
‘She told Blake she had been unfaithful to him and... it was a very, very bad situation. She cut herself and she was upset...
‘I went down there and it was at that point that I tried to have her sectioned. To protect her.'
Mitch says he was unsuccessful because of red tape.
‘You have to have a GP, the clinical psychologist and the local area health authority [representative there],' he says in new biography Saving Amy.
‘By the time those three people [usually] convene the episode is over.'
