Simon Cowell announced the plan at the National Television Awards

Simon Cowell's charity single in aid of victims of the Haiti earthquake has been played on radio for the first time.

The X Factor judge organised an all-star cover of REM's 1993 hit Everybody Hurts in the wake of the natural disaster.

Leona Lewis opens the track, which premiered this morning, and is followed by Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Cheryl Cole, Mika and Michael Buble

JLS, Joe McElderry, Robbie Williams, and Take That also feature.

Everybody Hurts will be available to download from 7 February.

All proceeds go to the Disasters Emergency Committee and The Sun's Helping Haiti campaign.
