Katy Perry wasn't surprised when Russell Brand proposed - because she had read about his intentions online.

The singer admits she was expecting the comedian to pop the question after he was snapped buying a ring.

'Unfortunately, I still Google myself sometimes,' says Katy, 25.

'I saw it on Google alerts. I'm going to be honest!'

She and Russell, 34, got engaged in India on New Year's Eve.

'There was an elephant involved,' he tells E! Online. 'We were on an elephant just before it.

'It was at midnight, and it is not a good idea to be on the back of an elephant during a fireworks display.'
