Singer makes emotional plea for help

Wyclef Jean was born in Haiti

Wyclef Jean broke down in tears during a press conference about the Haiti earthquake.

It's thought up to 200,000 people may have died in the disaster in the singer's native country.

‘I want all Haitian people to listen to this,' Wyclef, 37, said at the New York press conference for his Yele Haiti Foundation.

'I do not cry for myself, I cry for all the Haitian people.'

Wyclef wants to evacuate residents from the capital Port-au-Prince to a makeshift tent city to allow aid to reach them.

'We need to migrate at least two million people,' he said.

'I give you my word, if I tell them to go, they will go. But they need somewhere to go to.'

Wyclef is hosting a telethon with George Clooney, 48, to raise money for the relief effort on 22 January. 

Justin Timberlake, U2 frontman Bono, Sting, Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera will perform. 

Last week, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $1million to Doctors Without Borders and Médecins Sans Frontiéres. 

Sandra Bullock also gave $1million, while Madonna gave $250,000 to Partners In Health.
