Brittany Murphy's struggled with her body image, say friends.
The star, who died on Sunday at the age of 32, arrived in Hollywood full of hope but constantly battled her own insecurities
'She was drastically different when she entered the business,' a pal tells People. 'Full of life, determined. But over the past few years, [she went] downhill. There was always something off, something in the way. She had a lot of inner demons.'
Just a fortnight before her death, Brittany - who was the centre of eating disorder and drug abuse rumours over the years - attended the Tt Collection Pop-up Party in Los Angeles and looked shockingly thin.
Reports have even alleged she was regularly using cocaine, a suggestion she denied in 2005.
'I have never tried it in my entire life,' Brittany told Jane magazine. 'I've never even seen it ... It couldn't be further from the truth."
The actress also insisted her changing shape was just part of the ageing process.
'I'm the same size I was in Clueless; it's just that the weight in your face changes as you grow and get older,' she explained. 'This is my body. I'm proud of it ... I'm healthy.'
The cause of Britney's death will not be revealed until toxicology tests are back in a few weeks.
Officials have already ruled out foul play.
