Brittany Murphy dies at the age of 32

Star went into cardiac arrest at home

Brittany Murphy dated her Just Married co-star Ashton Kutcher for a year in 2003

US actress Brittany Murphy has passed away aged 32.

The star died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center near Beverly Hills on Sunday morning.

Brittany went into cardiac arrest, but hospital sources have not released the cause of death.

Los Angeles Fire Department were called to the house she shares with her screenwriter husband Simon Monjack at 8am local time.

She was pronounced dead at hospital two hours later.

Brittany starred in 8 Mile, Clueless and Just Married.

'2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine,' her ex-boyfriend Ashton Kutcher wrote on Twitter following her death.

'My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon.

'See you on the other side kid.'

Brittany's rep Nicole Perna said in a statement: 'In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. It is their wish that you respect their privacy.'
