A man has been detained under the Mental Health Act after pleading guilty to assaulting Leona Lewis.
Schizophrenic Peter Kowalczyk, 29, appeared at City Of Westminster Magistrates' Court today and was told he will remain in hospital for an indeterminate period.
‘This is what happens when you don't take your medication,' said district judge Howard Riddle. ‘A woman is now devastated.'
Kowalczyk punched Leona, 24, in the face and were heard to say 'gotcha' during a book signing in central London on 14 October.
A witness statement from The X Factor 2006 winner was read out during the hearing.
‘I feel completely devastated by this attack,' it read. ‘Now I am very frightened about going out in public.
'And I don't know where the next attack will come from and if this will be more serious than what has just happened.'
