There was a rare sighting of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin together at a London hotel launch last week.

It's interesting timing considering that the pair have been dogged by rumours that their marriage is in trouble and they've been apart for most of the year.

‘They sat next to Gordon and Tana Ramsay and were canoodling all night,' said one onlooker at the Dean Street Townhouse.

‘No one expected to see them there, especially as they're so private and take such care to avoid being photographed together.

'At the end of the night they left as a couple, but took care not to be snapped. Gwyneth looked stunning and was happy to have pictures taken on her own.'

Gwyneth showed no sign of the strain she's been under recently after Chris was forced to deny scurrilous rumours that he's cheated on her. With Coldplay on tour and Gwyneth in New York, their time apart had led to speculation that they were no longer close.

‘As far as anyone's aware, the last time they were together was in September,' a source tells . ‘But if this was a statement, it was a typically low-key event for them to attend. It was a public show of togetherness, but it's still a long way from walking the red carpet together.'
