Jordin Sparks will be out of action for a week

Jordin Sparks is recovering after having an emergency appendectomy.

The American Idol 2007 winner was admitted to hospital on Wednesday.

‘Was struck with acute appendicitis,' she wrote on her Twitter page after the surgery.

‘Recovering today and the next week or so.'

Jordin, 19, was released from hospital on Friday but had to cancel a trip to Australia.

‘Feeling a little better but very sore,' she later wrote. ‘Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. It means so much and it's so powerful.'
