Leona Lewis's new album Echo is out next month

Leona Lewis has spoken out for the first time since she was assaulted at a book signing.

The X Factor winner was punched in the face at Waterstone's in Piccadilly two weeks ago.

'It could have been much worse,' says Leona. ‘I'm still alive.

‘It is just something that you have to deal with and the positives far outweigh the negatives.

'I don't like to dwell on the negatives. I'm a very positive person.'

Leona, 24, has no plans to take on extra security.

‘I have people around me that are looking out for me,' she adds.
