The X Factor judge knocks Alexandra Burke off top spot
Tuesday, 27 October 2009
Cheryl Cole's new track is officially the fastest-selling single of the year so far.
Fight For This Love topped the charts on Sunday with more than 290,000 sales.
‘I'm just getting over the fact I have recorded my solo record and now it's No 1,' says X Factor judge Cheryl, 26.
‘I can't take this all in. It's hard for me to put into words how I feel. I have this permanent smile on my face.'
Alexandra Burke's Bad Boys was the previous fastest-selling single of 2009, with 185,000 copies shifted in its first week.
‘Many congratulations to Cheryl Cole on her fantastic achievement,' Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company tells the BBC.
‘Other than X Factor winners, very few singles get anywhere near 300,000 sales in their first week.
‘In doing just that this week, Cheryl has shown just what a favourite she is with the British music-buying public.'
Cheryl's album 3 Words is out now.
