Pixie Lott up for MTV new act gong

Singer to represent UK and Ireland

Pixie Lott's first two singles, Mama Do and Boys And Girls, reached No 1

Pixie Lott is in the running for Best European Act at next month's MTV Europe Music Awards.

The singer, 18, is eligible for the prize after being picked as Best New UK And Ireland Act by a panel.

Pixie is now up against 21 other nominees from the rest of the continent.

Leona Lewis, 24, Foo Fighters, Green Day and Shakira will perform at the annual ceremony.

And Katy Perry, 24, will return as host for the second year running.

Lady GaGa, 23, and Kings Of Leon lead the pack with nominations for five of the 13 awards.

The MTV Europe Music Awards take place in Berlin on 5 November.
