Phil Tufnell's wife Dawn has revealed that training for Strictly Come Dancing has come as a shock to the sportsman

Cricket legend Phil, nicknamed The Cat by his team mates for his ability to sleep anywhere, was lighting one cigarette from another when we met him.

He was with wife Dawn and dance partner Katya Virshilas at a Hamleys charity event at the London toystore.

'He thought Strictly would be a laugh, but Katya has had to take him in hand,' Dawn told Now. 'He can be a lazy sod! At least this gets him off the couch.'

Phil said in future he plans yet more reality shows challenges - but he wants to up the stakes. 

'I'm not sure if I'm light enough on my feet yet,' he quipped. 'I might try Dancing On Ice next, but while being shot by a machine gun, under water. And on the moon.'

Not bad for a lazy bloke...
