Comedian Justin Lee Collins says seeing himself looking lardy on TV in January pushed him into taking drastic action to lose weight.
‘I had such a shock,' he tells Now in an exclusive interview. ‘I was putting my voice to some TV footage, then I looked at myself and realised I was the fattest I'd ever been.'
Justin, 35, who often tops polls of secret celebrity crushes, admits: ‘I don't know how much I weighed because I'm not a scales man, but I was massive. I had a 36in waist and my trousers were tight. I was on the cusp of having to buy 38in trousers.'
The comedian - who hosts The Sunday Night Project with Alan Carr, as well as his own chat show - had piled on the pounds by gorging on three Indian takeaways a week, washed down with beer or cider.
‘Curry, beer and cider are all lethal because they're very fattening and go straight to your gut,' says Justin.
He tried countless diets, but never managed to stick to them. ‘I did everything, but there's no magic fix.'
In January he signed up to a gym, where he works out five times a week, and cut out junk food.
‘I've been gymming like crazy man,' he reveals. I only have a curry once a fortnight now. And when I do I have tandoori chicken or chicken tikka, which is dry baked and lower in fat. Instead of beer I have a glass of red wine, which has less calories.'
The results speak for themselves. As well as losing loads of weight, he's also shed several inches from his waist. ‘I'm in 32in trousers,' he beams proudly. ‘I feel so much better and I've got loads more energy.'
Justin's autobiography Good Times (£18.99) is published by Ebury Press.
