Teri Hatcher is looking fit
Triathlon training has made Teri Hatcher super-fit

Teri Hatcher: I'm in better shape than I thought I was

The famously skinny star beefs up for charity

Monday, 28 September 2009

At the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in LA on 13 September, Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher, 44, looked like a true professional athlete.

The svelte star has been criticised in the past for being too skinny, but now she finally looks like she's got some healthy meat on her bones - the result of gaining muscle for the triathlon.

Teri's former super-thin frame was blamed on her going to extreme lengths to compete with her younger co-stars in the hit TV series.

But the weight loss left her face looking gaunt and older than her years, while plunging red-carpet gowns did nothing to hide her scrawny appearance. Now she's looking much healthier.

‘It's been an interesting time training for this event,' Teri blogged on her website. ‘Being the do-it-yourself type, I didn't have a trainer.'

In the last few months she's been seen out running, cycling
and swimming to prepare.

Teri reportedly trains for half an hour a day, combining cardio and strength training, and has been taking specialist swimming lessons from coach Nabil Kazi.

But Teri admits she doesn't enjoy it all. ‘The run is the least fun for me,' she says. ‘By that point I'm really tired, so the whole time I'm thinking: "I'm not going to make it.'''

Teri's new look is helped by her healthy eating habits. She occasionally has treats such as pizza or crisps, but her normal diet is full of healthy foods such as chicken, tuna and vegetable stir-frys.

‘What I love is to eat right,' she says. ‘I'm not a junk food eater.'

After she crossed the finishing line, an elated Teri joked: ‘I'm in better shape than I thought I was!' We agree that she's looking great.
