Singer opens up about turbulent marriage

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown are parents to 16-year-old Bobbi Kristina

Whitney Houston once clobbered her ex-husband Bobby Brown with a telephone.

The couple had a notoriously fiery relationship before they split in 2006 after 14 years of marriage.

One time, things got physical after Whitney, 46, threw a birthday party for Bobby, 40.

‘He spat on me,' she said. ‘I called a friend and said, "Come get me now"... 

‘He pushed me against the wall. I went back and I took the phone and I hit him over the head with it. He just fell down on the floor.'

Whitney says their drug addiction tore them apart.

‘Emotionally he was abusive,' she told US chat show host Oprah Winfrey. ‘He slapped me once but he got hit over the head three times by me.

‘Emotionally, the words he spoke were horrifying. And there were times he would smash things in the home.'
