Maura Tierney has withdrawn from her part in new TV show Parenthood.
The actress was due to star in a televised adaptation of the Ron Howard film but has had to pull out as she undergoes treatment for breast cancer.
The series premiere was due to air later this year but production was delayed when former ER star Maura, 44, was diagnosed.
Show bosses at NBC said they would delay filming for eight weeks but it is reported that the actress’s treatment will now conflict further with production schedules.
‘While we are saddened that Maura Tierney won’t be able to continue in her current role in Parenthood, our main concern is for her quick and full recovery,’ says an NBC spokesperson. ‘Our thoughts and best wishes are with her.’
The part is now expected to be recast.
Maura played Dr Abby Lockhart in ER - the show that propelled George Clooney to fame.
