TV and radio veteran announces his departure from breakfast show
Monday, 7 September 2009
Sir Terry Wogan has announced he is to quit his Radio 2 show, Wake Up To Wogan.
The 71-year-old broke the news on air this morning.
‘It’s the hardest thing I have ever done,’ he says. ‘It touches me deeply that I’ve played a part in your lives for, it seems, like generations.’
DJ Chris Evans, 43, will be taking over the breakfast slot after Terry’s last show airs on 18 December.
‘I know you will give him the same love and affection you’ve always shown to me,’ the veteran broadcaster told his fans.
Chris, who currently presents Radio 2’s drivetime show, sends Terry his best wishes.
‘To step down from something you have done so well for so long and obviously still enjoy doing must be a tough call, even for such a stoic as Sir Tel,’ he says on his BBC blog.
‘I promise I will do my utmost not to let you and your listeners down.’
Wake Up To Wogan has 7.93 million listeners each week.
