TV chef is sixth generation Sudanese
Tuesday, 25 August 2009
Jamie Oliver says his ancestors were black.
The chef, 34, who was born in Essex, says the link is from his dad Trevor’s side of the family.
'It turns out I'm sixth generation Sudanese,’ says Jamie. ‘We only found out about it when my grandfather's brother died.
'But, as it happens, there are quite a few Olivers who are a bit swarthy and have got curly hair, so I suppose that may explain it.’
Jamie is now interested in researching his heritage.
'To be honest, I don't have many details about the Sudan side of things,’ he tells the Radio Times.
‘But I'd really like to go on [BBC show] Who Do You Think You Are? to find out.'
Jamie's American Road Trip debuts on Channel 4 on 1 September.
