Anxious Mariah’s comeback flop fears

Tough times for the diva as her album’s release is delayed again

The release of Mariah Carey's new album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel has been put back for a second time and not only has the singer cancelled personal appearances on US show Today and VH1’s Storytellers, she's postponed receiving a star on the the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

‘Mariah’s a perfectionist,’ says our source. ‘That’s what’s causing all the delays. The album isn’t good enough yet, she isn’t thin enough yet… and nothing’s good enough yet.’

Mariah, who was 40 in March, will often listen obsessively to tracks while husband Nick Cannon is asleep.

‘Up listening to Hate U… Nick’s sleeping,’ she posted on her Twitter account at nearly 1am last week. It follows previous Tweets where she’s admitted suffering from insomnia.

It’s no surprise she’s stressed at home, too, since Nick’s been telling everyone who’ll listen that he can’t wait to be a dad.

Nick said: ‘I want to be a father that’s all about love. That’s the main thing to get right and, at the end of the day, it’s just about smothering my children with love. The same way I do to my wife!’ But despite all Nick’s talk – and despite pregnancy rumours – since marrying in April last year there’s been no sign of any children.

‘Mariah used to be an intense workaholic, but she’s focused on marriage now,’ our source adds. ‘She’s just putting herself under way too much pressure on all sides.’

Our source adds: ‘She’s afraid she’s going to humiliate herself again, that people are going to say she’s too old for a comeback or that she’s not as good as she used to be.

'Mariah wasn’t prepared for the barrage of negativity that followed Obsessed. When she thinks about doing TV appearances or whatever, she gets so strung out that she can’t possibly do it.’

Mariah’s spokesman insists the release delay is ‘nothing unusual’ and that the TV shows have simply been postponed to tie in with when the album finally does hit the shelves. We hope that it’s worth the wait…
