Cheryl Cole may have stolen her crown on last year’s X Factor, but Now can reveal that Dannii Minogue’s the hot favourite to romp to victory on the new series – with a little help from Simon Cowell.

Acid-tongued judge Simon has predicted that a boy will win this series, adding: ‘I’d love to find a great male singer this year. The girls have kind of dominated and it’s time for the boys to fight back.’

We can exclusively confirm leaked reports that Dannii has landed the boys category, Cheryl will mentor the girls, Louis Walsh has the groups and Simon will be in charge of the over-25s.

X Factor insiders believe this is Simon’s cheeky way of ensuring that Dannii has the best chance of winning as he’s been championing the boys since auditions started.

Although the battle between Cheryl and Dannii is being played down, Simon is aware of the fierce competition between them and has stoked it up by making them go head-to-head with their categories.

Which group the judges will mentor is supposed to be a big secret until later in the series, so sources say there’s a slim possibility things could change. But that hasn’t stopped punters betting on Dannii to win at odds of 2/1 with William Hill, while Cheryl’s behind at 9/4.
