Is Peter Andre facing breakdown danger?

Fears for Pete’s state of mind as he faces pressure from all sides

Peter Andre's clearly stressed out as Jordan's antics take their toll on him

No-one could blame Peter Andre if he was struggling right now.

So much is resting on his career comeback (his single Behind Closed Doors went in at No 4 and was set to fall further) – on top of which, he has to cope with the almost daily barrage of images of his wife cavorting with her new love, cage fighter Alex Reid, in front of his children.

While Pete’s declared publicly: ‘I’m over it – 100 per cent,’ there’s every sign that he’s not out of the woods yet.

There’s even been talk of his returning to the Australian jungle for I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here!, the show where he met his wife – another sign that the end of his five-year marriage to Jordan is far from a clean break.

While ITV wouldn’t confirm it last week, Peter’s said to be in ‘advanced talks’ with bosses despite the memories it would certainly bring back.

Our source reveals: ‘Pete says he’s over it all one minute, but then something will come up about Katie and Alex and he’s furious again and gets very down. He’s under pressure to succeed in his career and he’s fighting to establish himself in his own right. It’s a tall order for anyone.'

When he was a pop star the first time around, Pete put himself under such pressure to achieve the perfect ripped body that he ended up being hospitalised after collapsing at his parents’ dinner table during a frightening hallucination in which he imagined cutting his own wrists.

He detailed the breakdown frankly in his autobiography All About Us: My Story. ‘I had what’s called panic disorder, an imbalance in your brain that just happens. I think it stems from the mental and racial abuse that I had as a kid,’ Pete wrote.

He went back to Australia to take a break, but that too proved a dark episode: ‘I started getting really depressed and thinking: “Oh my God, what have I done? Am I stupid? I had everything in the palm
of my hand and I let it go.”

'He had another tough time in 2005 after son Junior was born and Jordan suffered from postnatal depression. Pete admitted then his mood was so bad, he needed help. ‘I developed a temper I didn’t have before and I need to sort that out,’ he said at the time.

A friend tells Now : ‘No one wants to see Pete go down that path again. It means so much to him to get approval and that’s more crucial now than ever while he’s reeling from the nastiness of this split.’

Although his management team insisted last week: ‘Pete’s fine now,’ therapists Nik and Eva Speakman, who’ve worked with him in the past, point out that such career pressures at the time of a break-up can be a doubled-edged sword.
