Singer's car collides with lorry in early hours
Monday, 17 August 2009
George Michael was questioned on suspicion of driving under the influence after his £80,000 silver Range Rover was in a smash with a lorry on the A34 in Berkshire early on Friday morning.
'There was no movement from his car for what seemed like ten minutes. I was really shaken and thought someone had died,' truck-driver Lawrie Rowe, 43, tells The Sun.
'The Range Rover's bonnet was sticking up, the front panels were missing and all the windows were shattered.'
After 5 hours helping police with their enquiries at Loddon Valley police station, 46-year-old George was released without charge.
A spokeswoman for the singer said that he had not been arrested.
George was twice cautioned for possessing cannabis after being found asleep at the wheel of his car on two separate occasions in 2006.
He was banned from drivng for two years in June 2007 after pleading guilty to driving while unfit through drugs.
In September 2008, he was cautioned for possessing class A and class C drugs.
‘I want to apologise to my fans for screwing up again and to promise them I'll sort myself out,’ George said at the time. ‘And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them.’
This weekend he insisted he was 'stone cold sober' before Friday's smash and said in a statement: 'I don't want my fans or my family worried by what they are reading all over again'.
