David's team-mates hit out on why they think his LA move went so wrong
Friday, 14 August 2009
Victoria and David Beckham’s decision to quit LA may have come as a shock to many, but as David’s team-mates turn on them, Now can reveal the tensions under the surface of the golden couple’s American dream.
According to David’s LA Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan, Posh, 35, and Becks, 34, demanded preferential treatment.
‘I don’t know how much anybody has in common with them,’ he says in a book based on their move called The Beckham Experiment. ‘They’re such a different breed and they just live in a different world.’
Only David was allowed to travel with the manager in first class – and after 18 months, the pair had failed to invite a single team-mate to their Beverly Hills mansion.
However, Posh and Becks will be putting the criticism behind them as they prepare to move on, as we reported last week.
Becks has been feeling the full force of his critics, but it’s hardly fair to put the blame at his doorstep for not revolutionising the entire game in the US, just because he signed such a huge transfer deal.
The couple’s Armani underwear campaign also captivated America – and the work to raise their profile has been helped this week by Posh signing up to make a one-off appearance on American Idol.
With more than 23 million US viewers set to tune in to see the opening programme of the new season’s show, as well as more Brits than usual likely to tune in to ITV2, Posh clearly hasn’t entirely given up the battle to be a US success.
