He may have dreamt of roast dinners and Port Vale FC while living in LA, but the reality of being back home hasn’t quite lived up to the ideal for Robbie Williams.
Despite the singer’s upbeat and positive attitude last week while announcing the release of his new album Reality Killed The Video Star on 9 November, things aren’t so rosy behind the scenes.
We can reveal that Robbie returned to LA last week after 8 months trying to live a ‘normal’ life in Swindon.
‘When he moved back to the UK, Robbie said he’d had enough of the “fake bullshit” in LA,’ a friend tells Now. ‘He was desperate to be with his family and friends, but it hasn’t worked out.’
Robbie, 35, suffers from SAD and would often sink into depression when the weather was bad. He was keen to get back to his sunshine lifestyle in LA.
His girlfriend, actress Ayda Field, 30, is also rumoured to have a part in the movie Unbound Captives, which is due to start filming in October.
Robbie spent most of his time in the UK watching TV, although he did start a darts team. Happiness doesn’t come easily to him, says our source. ‘He’s achieved so much he’s constantly looking for new highs, but most of the time he doesn’t find them.
‘Moving back to the UK was just another way to search his soul for what he thinks he wants. Rob has bursts of happiness, then long periods of sadness where he’s like a lost puppy. That’s when he lashes out at friends and disappears for weeks at a time.’
Robbie's new single Bodies will be released on 12 October.
