Emotionally drained after weeks of X Factor auditions, Cheryl Cole’s readying herself to go back into high-profile overdrive.

She’s recharging her batteries at home in Surrey before the show hits our screens on 22 August.

Two weeks ago, she looked worn out due to the show’s gruelling schedule, plus all-night recordings in LA.

Our source says: ‘She’ll need all the energy she can muster for her solo battle with the rest of the Girls Aloud.

'Nadine Coyle’s causing massive interest in the States, with three record labels vying to sign her up. She’s also based in LA. Sarah Harding’s been involved in TV and film projects, too. Cheryl’s a bit behind when she’s used to being on top.’

In hard times, Cheryl, 26, turns to the one person she can always count on: her mum Joan.

Joan now lives with Cheryl and husband Ashley, 28, acting as a cook, cleaner – and listener.

Our source says: ‘Ash may not like it, but there will always be three people in their marriage, so he’ll have to lump it.

‘Everyone’s saying Cheryl’s stressed, but she knows what she’s got to do for her career.’
