Actress didn't mind if it had grit in it

Thandie Newton reckons she has a strong immune system

Thandie Newton used to pick gum off the road and chew it.

The actress wasn’t allowed the sticky confectionery as a child so she resorted to drastic measures to get her hands on some.

‘If it had grit in it, we’d casually pick it off and pop it in our mouths,’ Thandie, 36, tells the Daily Express.

‘I think that’s why my immune system is so strong today. But looking back, how gross.’

Thandie is mum to Ripley, 8, and Nico, 4, with director husband Ol Parker.
